Floods and the Forest

Hello!
What's been happening? Let's see...

The garden flooded...

...but everything was fine...

...I went camping in the forest...

...the tent flooded...

...but everything was fine...

It was difficult to plan to eat raw on this trip, but in the end things went successfully. Every morning for breakfast I ate a grapefruit - halved and sprinkled with generous amounts of Barleymax. That was a nice fruity green treat each day. I love grapefruit!!! I made some fancy herbed nut patties and ate those when I needed something hearty. In the evenings I had salads and I snacked on dates, rehydrated dried fruits, and raw chocolate throughout each day. It was hard to keep the greens fresh, but my solution to that problem is to eat more wild greens from the forest next time:) Thanks to Carmella, Raw Rob, and Shell, I have been getting some useful lessons in wild edibles lately;)

When I got back from the camping trip I was delighted to see how much fun the melon plants were having...

I got to pick a bunch of goodies, too!

The trip was pretty rugged and physically demanding and I wasn't really mentally prepared for exactly how much stamina I was going to need, so the first three days I was kind of miserable. Then I adapted. The rest of the trip was magical and glorious after that:)

HEY, Kittee!!!
I've flipped through Raw Food Real World before and I've been to the Pure Juice and Takeaway in New York by the same people. The chocolate tart that I had while I was there ($10 for a slice of chocolate cake- ahhhh!!) was an experience I will never forget as long as I live. I've told the story to quite a few people. I also had some raw ice cream there, 2 diff flavors, and ooooohhhweeeeee - honey...I was in heaven. So when I saw that Whole Foods has the book, I brought a pen and paper pad with me last week and copied down verbatim the vanilla ice cream recipe. I felt like a sneaky bandit:) My next conquest is the chocolate ganache recipe. Its good to know that if I get caught at WF, I can seek refuge at the library.

Audry, you make gardening and growing food look so easy. Have you much experience, or are you just a natural green fingered goddess? Thanks for sharing your garden bounty :) i sure would love to come to dinner at yours!! I'll bring flowers @~ @~

Shell,

Miss Cake Maker Extroardinaire! You must consider trying the chocolate ganache recipe!!!

I know very very little about gardening, yet I feel quite passionate about it these days. In April when I decided to take a break from the work I was doing at the farmers market (for a little more than a year I was a vendor there selling my own raw snacks and goodies), I decided to throw myself and all my energy into a food garden. That is what you see in all these pictures I post here. I think a lot of the success I have experienced is beginners luck, but I look forward to the challenges ahead of me.

...so for dinner, please bring flowers and maybe some of that cheery chocolate cherry cake that I have been dreaming about???? ;)

Audrey,
Thanks for the compliment. Your blog is really inspiring too! We even added you as a link on our page. Raw foods have truly accelerated our health and well being. Keep it up and keep the light on!

Hi Heather,
you should totally go on a raw camping meditation retreat! I will support you in any way I can. I actually wish I had done a lot more meditation while I was out in the forest, but I know that now for next time. Yeah, those boots are a lot of fun :-)

Hi Peggy and Curtis,
I'm glad you liked my blog!!! I also added your fantastic raw blogsite to my faves list ;) ;) I look forward to reading your upcoming posts!
